Kovalam Beach
Kovalam is a very famous beach resort all over the world. Since 1930's
the international tourists, especially the Europeans, frequent the Kovalam Beach.
Kovalam along with the crescent-shaped beaches bordered by coconut and palm trees
makes for a splendid setting for a sun and sea bathing. The Lighthouse Beach is
the southern most beaches and is popular among the tourists who spend most of
their time at this beach.
Sight Seeing Kovalam, 10 km from the
capital city Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) comprises of three small crescent
beaches adjacent to each other, namely, the Lighthouse Beach, Hawa Beach and Samudra
Beach. The Lighthouse Beach, the southern most beach is the place where most of
the visitors spend their time. Overlooking the rocky headland is the Hawa Beach.
It is the middle beach and a base for local fishers each morning. The Samudra
Beach is the last beach, is least affected by the changing times. A few simple
wooden fishing vessels line the beach.
Beach Activities There
is no dearth of beach activities at Kovalam Beach. Water sports at Kovalam beach
include swimming, catamaran ride, kayaking, parasailing, surfing and windsurfing.
If you are interested in just relaxing, you can enjoy the sunbathe on the golden
sands of the beaches and get a lovely tan. An Ayurvedic massage will help take
away all your stresses and tensions. The seaside stalls sell souvenirs and trinkets.
There are several seaside restaurants and stalls preparing fresh and delicious
seafood all along the edge of Kovalam Beach.
