Ayurveda prescribes many treatments for various medical conditions such as rheumatism, respiratory problems, blood pressure, cholesterol, paralysis etc. This system of medicine is special in that it makes use of only natural ingredients and as a result are totally harmless and at the same time highly curative. Some of the treatments offered at Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort are as follows: PIZHICHIL ( 14 Days) Pizhichil is a special massage involving the entire body and which has been found to be very effective for the treatment of Rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, paralysis-agitanus, sexual weakness, nervous weakness, nervous disorders etc. In this treatment, lukewarm herbal oils are applied all over the body by two to four trained therapists in a special rhythmic way, continuously for about 60 to 90 minutes per day for 7 to 21 days. NJAVARAKIZHI ( 14 Days) Njavarakizhi is carried out by two to four therapists for about 60 to 90 minutes a day for a period of 14 days. Njavarakizhi is basically a sudation process in which the whole body or any specific part is made to perspire by the external application of certain medical puddings tied up in muslin bags. Rheumatism, pain in the joints, emaciation of limbs, high blood pressure, cholesterol and certain kinds of skin diseases find its treatment in Njavarakizhi. DHARA ( 14 Days) The Ayurvedic treatment Dhara (which means 'flow') involves making herbal oils, medicated milk, medicated butter milk etc., flow over the forehead for about 45 minutes per day for 7 to 21 days. This treatment is mainly for insomnia, Vatha predominated diseases, mental tension and certain skin diseases. Dashamoola Ksheera Dhara - Medicated milk is poured all over the body and head from a special vessel placed at a certain height in a rhythmic manner. This treatment is good for insomnia, mental tensions, headache due to Pitha dominance, menopause problems etc. Sarvanga Kashaya Dhara - This treatment is a kind of sudation therapy using herbal decoctions. In this process, the body is made to perspire by pouring a warm decoction from special herbs from a special vessel placed at a certain height. It is rubbed onto the body in a rhythmic manner. This method removes ‘ama’ or toxins from the tissues and promotes fat metabolism, removes tension from the muscles and is also good for pain and stiffness of the joints and muscles, fibromyalgia etc. VASTHI ( 14 Days) Vasthi is the treatment for arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, numbness, gastric complaints associated with rheumatism and constipation. The process involves application of certain herbals oils, herbal extracts etc., through the rectum daily for a period of 5 to 25 days. SIROVASTHI ( 14 Days) Sirovasthi involves pouring certain lukewarm herbal oils into a cap fitted on the patient's head. This is carried out 15 to 60 minutes everyday for a period of 7 days or as per the condition of the patient. This treatment is highly effective for facial paralysis, dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, severe headaches, and other Vatha originated diseases. UDVARTHANAM ( 14 Days) Udvarthanam is an Ayurvedic treatment for diseases like hemiplegia, paralysis, obesity (excess fat) and certain rheumatic ailments. This is a typical massage with herbal powder for about 30 to 45 minutes daily for a period of 14 to 28 days. ABHYANGAM ( 14 Days) As a solution for obesity, especially diabetic gangrene, Somatheeram provides an Ayurvedic treatment called Abhyangam. It is a special type of oil massage in which rhythmic strokes are given according to the nature of the diseases for 45 minutes a day for 14 days. NASYAM ( 14 Days) Headaches, paralysis, mental disorders, certain types of skin diseases etc. are treated in Ayurveda through the procedure called Nasyam. This special treatment involves applying certain herbal juices, medicated oils etc. through the nose for 7 to 14 days. SNEHAPANAM ( 14 Days) Snehapanam is the treatment for osteoarthritis, psoriasis, leukaemia etc. This treatment involves the intake of medicated ghee everyday, the quantity of which is increased proportionally for 8 to 12 days. KIZHI ( 14 Days) Kizhi is an Ayurvedic treatment for osteoarthritis, arthritis with swelling, spondilosis, sports injuries etc. The process involves the application of herbal leaves and herbs or herbal powders to the whole body in boluses with hot medicated oils for 45 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 14 days. DHANYAMLA DHARA ( 14 Days) Dhanyamla Dhara Ayurvedic treatment is done for patients suffering from hemiplegia, paralysis, rheumatic complaints etc. The process involves pouring warm herbal liquid all over the body in a rhythmic way through a special vessel for 45 minutes to 1 hour daily. YONI PRAKSHALANAM ( 07 Days) Yoni Prakshalanam is a treatment procedure for curing gynaecological disorders and for the purification of genital organs. In this process, herbal oils and decoctions are applied through the vaginal route. KATIVASTHI ( - Days) Through the treatment called Kativasthi, effective relief is provided for all types of back pain and spinal disorders. In this process, specially prepared warm medicated oil is kept over the lower back with herbal paste boundary. This treatment lasts for 45 minutes to 1 hour. UROVASTHI ( - Days) Urovasthi is another Ayurvedic treatment wherein, warm medicated oil is poured over the chest for 45 minutes. This is an effective treatment for asthma, other respiratory problems, heart diseases and muscular chest pain. KSHEERADHOOMAM ( - Days) For the treatment of facial paralysis, Bell's palsy, speech disorders and other nervous disorders of the face, Ksheeradhoomam is prescribed. The treatment procedure consists of fomentation with cow's milk that is specially medicated. THALAM ( - Days) ENT problems, isomnia, migraine etc.are treated through the procedure called Thalam. For this procedure, special powder mixed with medicated oil is applied on the head for 20 to 45 minutes. LEPANAM ( - Days) For patients suffering from various inflammatory conditions, Somatheeram prescribes Lepanam as the cure. This treatment involves the application of medicated herbal paste on the affected area. MARMA MASSAGE ( - Days) Through this special massage, the expert therapists stimulates all the vital points called “Marma” of the body. It helps the patients in attaining equilibrium of Vatha, Pitha and Kapha. This treatment helps strengthen muscles and ligaments as well as gives relief to old trauma and injuries from sports, dance and martial arts. LEKHANEEYAM ( - Days) This Ayurvedic treatment is the solution for obesity, cellulities and to tone up the muscles and skin. A very special herbal paste is massaged on the body in an upward direction. THARPANAM ( - Days) Tharpanam is a special Ayurvedic treatment for the eyes. This is basically a cleaning process for the eyes, which gives a cooling effect, prevents eye diseases and strengthens the optic nerve. MUKHALEPAM ( - Days) With Mukhalepam treatment, skin tone improve considerably and wrinkles reduce visibly. Mukhalepam is essentially a herbal face pack with specially made herbal powder and fresh cream. This is also good for the eyes. KARNAPOORANAM ( - Days) Patients suffering from various ailments associated with the ear are given the treatment called Karnapooranam. MEDICATED STEAM BATH ( - Days) Undergoing a medicated steam bath helps in eliminating impurities from the body, to improve the tone of the body, to reduce fat and to cure certain skin diseases.
