Spice Village Periyar, Idukki
Welcome to the Spice Village Periyar,
a delightful place to get away far from the congested cities. Periyar is a beautiful
place where jungle trekking and cruising on the lake adds up to the splendour.
Also one would have a chance to watch the wild animals. The misty mountains with
the spice plantations captivates the beauty of the place. It is located on the
ranges of the Western Ghats. Periyar is popular for its Tiger Reserve and National
Park with a picturesque lake within the sanctuary. The dam built in 1895, led
to a formation of an artificial water body. The reservoir is a major source of
water to the wild life since it hovers around the mountainous region. Wild animals
like elephant, pig, sambar and gaur throng the lakeside and can be witnessed from
the launches and motorboats.
The Spice Village is located 190 kms from
Cochin and 100 km from Munnar. It is about 130 kms from Madurai Airport, 265 kms
from Kovalam Beach and 170 kms from Kumarakom Backwaters. |

Accommodation
* Individual cottages are designed by recreating the temper of the local tribal
community. Architectural cottages thrive within the spice garden engulfed with
lavish lifestyle and secrecy.
* In order to make a luxurious stay, many
creature comforts have been designed. The rooms are well-furnished with sophisticated
feel. The wooden beds and chairs, terracotta tiled floors, and whitewashed walls
match the architectural splendour. The furniture is crafted with pine from Cochin's
historic docks, thus conserving the environment. There is also a fan, telephone,
and an en suite bathroom with hot running water with an efficient laundry service.
A verandah is constructed around the entire cottage, and each dwelling is set
in its own land.

Meals – Here the meals are served in a varied range of continental
as well as Traditional Indian cooking. As the name of the resort suggests, spices
play a significant role in preparing authentic dishes. Also there is a provision
of changing the menu everyday.
* Recreation -
A swimming pool, located at the centre of the village is encircled by tropical
lawns and trees.
* Ayurveda –
An exclusive Ayurvedic clinic, the Spice Village is well-equipped for treatments
like Dhara, Pizhichil, Njavarakizhy, and other natural therapies.

Village’s Ayurvedic Centre
Under the expert guidance of vaidyan or
a physician, the following therapies at its Ayurvedic Center is conducted for
treatment. The Centre is also well-equipped with qualified resident staff and
dispensary.
* Dhara - A mental relaxant
comprising medicated butter milk and herbal oils are poured on the forehead and
at times on the body. It is good for patients with certain skin problems as well
as for insomnia and mental tension. According to the condition proposed period
for this therapy ranges from 7 to 21 days.

Sirovasthi - A treatment with special herbal oils anoints the head.
It is good for Vatha originated ailments as well as headaches. Proposed period
of treatment is 7 days or according to condition.

Pizhichil – Its a special kind of herbal oil massage. Treatment
of nervous disorders and is also good for various. Proposed period of cure is
7 to 14 days or according to condition.

* Njavarakizhy - A treatment producing perspiration
through the application of medicated rice concocations. Curing of joint pains,
arthritic conditions and certain skin diseases are done. The proposed period is
14 days or according to condition.
* Udvarthanam
– Its a herbal powder massage. Rheumatic disorders, obesity and
paralysis victims are treated. The proposed period is 14 to 28 days according
to condition.
* Massage-General –
In order to improve the blood circulation and regenerate energy, the body is massaged
with herbal oil and powder.
* Medicated Steam
Bath – A typical steam bath where the body is exposed to the boiled
vapours of special leaves and herbs that gives a rejuvenating impact. Also it
eradicates toxins, minimizes fat tissue and effective for some skin disorders.
* Nasyam - Different herbal medicines are
used to cleanse the nasal passage through this procedure.

* Water Safari –
Different methods can be used to explore the Periyar Tiger Reserve. To enable
tourists to have a glimpse of wild animals drinking at the lakeside, the most
popular is by boat. There is the facility of booking trips at Spice village for
a duration of two hours. Early morning or evening is the best time to get an opportunity
of watching animals. Forest branches erupting from water gives a mysterious sensation.
One gets the chance of beholding the wilderness from close quarters.

Forest Treks – It can be arranged for someone to engage in adventure
in the tropical forests. A tribal guide would be accompanied and will be dropped
by a boat at the banks of the lake, from where one can walk on foot. It's not
