Chinnar Heritage Plantation Resort, Idukki The Chinnar Heritage
Plantation Resort is situated in the Tea Estate of Semni Valley. It is located
on the cardamom hills in Central Kerala near to Elappara. Built in 1905, the 770
sq metre semi-colonial style, single-storey bungalow, integrates the traditional
architectural features of Kerala. On the west, the Semni valley is covered by
Haileyburia Tea Estate. Chinnar Estate lies in the north while Twyford lies in
the south. It forms a part of the 3000 acres of the plantations. The distance

Rooms
The property of Chinnar resort provides 4 bedrooms and 2 children's rooms within
the main bungalow and 2 other bedrooms in the outhouse on the southern side of
the garden. The rooms being spacious enough offer luxurious and comfortable stay.
Common living room and dining areas are attached to the bedrooms. A fireplace
graced with intense woodwork and charming cots beautify the bedrooms. En-suite
washrooms provide both hot and cold running water. Various wooden furniture
and sofas adorn the living room rendering an elegant look. The windows facing
the verandah let in cool breeze as well as sunlight. The bungalows display an
exotic collection of bygone era furnitures constructed of ebony, rosewood and
teak Luxurious Accomodation The western and the northern side
verandahs have huge glass windows. The open verandah planned on the eastern side
so that one can where you can inhale the blowing fresh air from the plantations.
Rare collection of intricately designed furniture like easy chairs, wooden
coat-stands and mirror help in upholding the souvenirs of India's illustrious
past. The fine craftsmanship, manifested from the flint carvings on the slanted
corners of the chest of drawers or the coat-stand portrays rare combination.
A hygienic and well-equipped kitchen of the bungalow helps to serve vegetarian
food. Drinks and refreshments form part of the Indian menu. Special North Indian
dishes are also prepared by the chef on request. Chinnar Wildlife
Sanctuary It is located at about 60 km from Munnar, Idukki district.
Graced with xerophyte species, it is a vast thorny scrub forest. Chinnar is the
homeground of the endangered Giant Grizzled Squirrel of India. It's sum-total
was less than 200. Apart from the other wild-life sanctuaries of Kerala, Chinnar
receives only 48 days of rain every year. The mixed deciduous forests are ideal
for adventures like trekking. Another source of attraction is the extensive Sandalwood
forest. On travelling from Karimuthi to Chinnar, one can have the pleasure of
watching sambar, hanuman monkey, peacocks, spotted deer as well as herds of Bison.
Wet grasslands, high sholas and dry deciduous forests add to the splendour of
the sanctuary. | Facilities
Four spacious rooms with luxurious bedrooms dawn the main bungalow. Two more bedrooms
with all modern facilities rest in the out-house of the southern side of the garden.
Standard package of 7 nights and 8 days are usually offered. On the other
hand there are special packages with Ayurvedic care customised to suit one's requirements.
An impressive flower-lined driveway leads the tourists to the front construction.
The adorable arches, resting on rock columns with the medium- pitched sheet roofs,
are gabled above the structure. Small footsteps with scalloped edges welcome one
into the royal and lavish interiors. The master bedrooms lie on either
side of the long passages. Adjacent to the drawing room and the large pentagon-shaped
floor-cot one can find a playroom for children. Two more bedrooms lie
in the northern side of the bungalow. The living/dining areas and all bedrooms
have fire-places graced with intricately designed woodwork. The charming cots
exquisitely designed are fitted with lamps that pop up at the touch of a button.
